Ada Maxine Dykes, 92, of Utica, Missouri passed away in her home surrounded by her family Thursday, January 7, 2021.

Maxine was born in Mercer, Missouri July 16, 1928 to parents Robert Lee and Iona Mae Cox Gibson. She was a 1945 graduate of Mercer High School. After graduation Maxine moved to Des Moines, IA and worked for Standard Oil.

On December 1, 1950 she married Lawrence Dempsey Dykes in Mercer, Missouri. The family moved to Utica, Missouri in 1955. She worked at Boss Glove Factory in Chillicothe, MO from 1959 until the factory closed. Maxine taught CLIAs at the Community Baptist Church in Utica for many years and was known as Granny to all the kids she interacted with. Maxine loved spending time with her family, her Church and being outdoors.

Maxine is survived by her sons, Lyle Lee Dykes (Marcia); Leslie Van Dykes (Patricia); daughters, Lorna Sue Wheeler (Keith); Linda Jeane Ireland; All of Utica Missouri;  a grandson she raised, Michael Van Dykes of the home; Also survived by grandchildren, Laney Taylor (Randall); Lance Wheeler (Brook); Dwain Ireland (Amy); Derek Dykes (Debby); David Dykes  (Kamyrn); Patrick Dykes; great grandchildren, Jayce and Alana Taylor; Aiden Wheeler and Corben Liebhart; Dane and Abigail Maxine Ireland; Caden Johnson and Haley Dykes; brother-in-law, Larry Dykes; sister-in-law, Lana Provolt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Iona Gibson; husband, Lawrence Dykes; grandson, Luke Dykes; sisters, Mary (Dot) Robinson and husband Pete; Nellie McCarty and husband Cloyd; twin sister Pauline Puffer and husband Earl; infant brother Alexander Gibson; son-in-law Junior Ireland.

Memorials in honor of Maxine may be made to Utica Baptist Church or Utica Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Heritage Funeral Home, 3141 N. Washington, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601. Online condolences may be left at www.heritage-becausewecare.com

Calling hours will be held Sunday, January 10, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Private family services will be held followed by a public grave side service at Utica cemetery January 11, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
