Virginia Hartley

Virginia May Hartley, 100, of Chillicothe MO passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Morningside Center in Chillicothe. She was just a few hours short of her 101st birthday.
She was born November 27, 1914 at Laredo, MO, the daughter of Jesse Earl and Bertha Leona (Blackburn) Frasher. Virginia attended schools in Laredo, rural Linn County and Chillicothe High School, graduating in 1933. Then she attended Jackson University of Business in Chillicothe.
On January 6, 1935 she married Roy Franklin Hartley, of Laredo, at the Baptist Church of Chillicothe. He preceded her in death on November 7, 1970.
They lived on a farm near Laredo and she worked for the Grundy County Superintendent of Schools before moving to California in 1956.
While in California, she worked as a secretary at Radioplane, a division of Northrup Corp. and North American Aviation, where she held a Secret Clearence. She retired from Supercope Marantz in 1979. After retirement, she worked part time for Jo’s Country Baskets and Grace Baptist Church in Newhall, CA. She then moved to Chillicothe in 1994.
Virginia was a member of the Order of Eastern Star since 1949 and was Worthy Matron of Laredo Chapter 362. She was District Deputy Grand Matron of the 5th district of Missouri O.E.S. which included Laredo, Trenton, Spickard, Princeton and Galt.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family.
Virginia is survived by two daughters, Beverly Joan Smith of Payettte, ID and Barbara June Cairns of Chillicothe; a brother, Nova Clifton Frasher, 94, of Prescott Valley AZ. ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews;
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy; daughter, Betty Jean Hall; a brother; a sister; and a grandson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in honor of Virginia be made to the American Cancer Society and left at or mailed to Heritage Funeral Home 3141 N. Washington, Chillicothe MO. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday December 1, 2015 at Heritage Funeral Home, Chillicothe MO.
Burial will be at Rural Dale Cemetery, Trenton MO.
A visitation will be held 1 hour (9:00 a.m.) prior to the service on Tuesday.
Arrangements are under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home, Chillicothe MO.
