Ruth Crain Scholl

June 23, 1939 — June 22, 2010

Ruth Ann “Ruthie” Crain Scholl, 70, of Jensen Beach, FL, formerly of Breckenridge and Chillicothe, MO, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010.

RuthAnn was born June 23, 1939 in Hillsboro, IA, the daughter of Hugh and Ruth Hoaglin.

She attended college in Kirksville, Mo.

Ruth married Ronald “Chuck” Crain and lived in Breckenridge and Chillicothe, Mo. They had 3 children together. They moved the family to Excelsior Springs, MO then off to Florida in 1997.

Ruth Ann and Chuck lived in Palm City, FL together until his death in 1988. Ruth Ann worked at Martin County High School in the attendance office for many years until South Fork High School opened and she transferred to run the attendance office there. At South Fork, they offered her the job of coaching the girls softball team. This ended up being the highlight of her life as she enjoyed coaching and mentoring the girls. She coached the girls to many victories, on and off the field. Even 20 years later these girls were among the many visitors she had in her last days.

Ruth Ann married Carl Scholl of Utica, MO in 1990. They lived in Missouri until Churchill Truck Lines closed (Carl’s employer) and moved to Florida. They also had a vacation home in North Carolina. Ruth Ann enjoyed the mountains and living near the Cherokee Indian Reservation. They lived between Florida and North Carolina until Carl’s death from cancer in 2004.

Ruth Ann maintained their residences in both states but then came to live more on a full-time basis in Florida when she was diagnosed with Cushings Syndrome in 1988. Her health issues of the next few years were very trying. She eventually developed liver cancer along with many other complications.

She enjoyed reading, crafting, revitalizing older homes and shopping. But her favorite pastime was exploring the mountains and sitting on her porches to take in the views of either the river in Florida or the mountains in North Carolina.

Ruth Ann is survived by three children, Carla McMahon of Dallas, TX, Randall Crain of Stuart, FL and Rebecca Crain Ramos of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren, Seamus McMahon, Madigan McMahon, Ryan Crain, Brody Crain, Ridge Ramos and Rhett Ramos; a brother Jon Hoaglin; and sisters, Mary Sue Hoaglin and Marsha Cioffi.

She was preceded in death by her parents Hugh and Ruth Hoaglin and husbands, Chuck Crain and Carl Scholl.
