Norma Joan “Jody” James, 80, of Chillicothe, MO, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Indian Hill Nursing Home in Chillicothe, under the care of her family and Hedrick Medical Center Hospice.
Jody was born March 27, 1930 in Carrollton, MO, the daughter of Herbert John Newton and Goldie Lauda Bunch Newton of Chillicothe, MO.
She graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1948 and spent her life time in the Chillicothe area.
On August 9, 1949 she married Chester Ray “Chet” James in Chillicothe. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2005 in Liberty, MO.
Jody was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chillicothe.
She was a homemaker and care giver who enjoyed gardening and flowers.
Jody is survived by a son, Don Kevin James and wife, Janet, of Mooresville, MO; a daughter, Peggy Voncille Graves and husband, Bill, of Trenton, MO; four grandchildren, Jeff James and friend, Mandy Anderson, of Ludlow, MO, Stephanie Reid and husband, Brooks of Bosworth, MO, Preston Graves and wife, Samantha of Chillicothe, and Emily Hannon and husband, Luke of Chillicothe, MO; four great grandchildren, James Reid of Bosworth, MO, Beau Ann Graves of Chillicothe; Laine and Peyton Hannon of Chillicothe, MO , and one sister Jean McCreary of Chillicothe; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Chet; a brother Garland Newton of Chillicothe; two sisters, Mildred Lavender of Columbus, Mississippi and Voncille Burk of Chillicothe; two infant grandchildren, Lisa Marie and Amy Kathleen James of Mooresville, MO.
The family requests no memorials.
A private family graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 10:30 p.m. at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe
There will be no visitation, but friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 9th and Wednesday, November 10th from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Burial will be at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, MO
Arrangements are under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home, Chillicothe, MO.
