Mary Carpenter

Mary Josephine (Woolsey) Carpenter, 95, of Chillicothe, MO,  died Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Indian Hills Nursing Home in Chillicothe. Mary was born December 1, 1915, the daughter of Elmer and Della (Treon) Woolsey in the Highland Community of Breckenridge, Missouri. Mary attended Trotter School, of Davies County until the age of 10, then started attending school at Breckenridge and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1933. On October 21, 1937 Mary graduated as a RN from Graham Hospital Training School for Nurses in Keokuk, Iowa. After graduation she went to the Chicago area as a surgical nurse. On June 16, 1946 Garvin D. Carpenter and Mary Josephine Woolsey were united in marriage in Kansas City, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1991. To this union two sons were  born, Richard G. Carpenter and John W. Carpenter. Mary was a member of the Highland Church of Breckenridge, Missouri until moving her membership to the First Christian Church of Maywood, Illinois, a sister in P.E.O. Chapter GN, Illinois. Mary was very active in her church and enjoyed reading her Bible, crocheting, cross stitching, and working search and find puzzles. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up and the great-grandchildren kept her entertained while in the nursing home. She is survived by her sons, Richard Carpenter and wife Cheri of Breckenridge, Missouri, John Carpenter and wife Denise of Lombard, Illinois; six grandchildren, Michael Carpenter and wife Jodie, Philip Carpenter, Ashley Thompson and husband Jim, Joseph Carpenter, Jennifer Carpenter, and Deanna Carpenter and fiancé Anthony Coronato; Three great grandchildren, Carson Thompson, Case Thompson and Ayden Carpenter; nephew, Richard Salisbury and wife Shelly. Mary was preceded in death by her husband; parents; in-laws, John Alvin and Jessie Carpenter; brothers Olen, Claude and Wilbur Lee Woolsey; Sister, Margaret Salisbury.
Memorials in honor of Mary Carpenter may be made to the Breckenridge Methodist Church or Rose Hill Cemetery and left at the funeral home or mailed to Heritage Funeral Home, 3141 N. Washington, Chillicothe, MO 64601. On line condolences may be left at www.heritage-becausewecare.com .
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Heritage Funeral Home, Chillicothe, MO
Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Breckenridge, MO.
A visitation is scheduled from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2011 at Heritage Funeral Home.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. on Monday.
