Lowell Allen Shoultz

    Lowell Allen Shoultz age 83, a resident of the Avalon Community, passed away on Saturday August 30th, 2025, at his home. Lowell was born the son of Michael and Lillie (McClure) Shoultz on March 5th, 1942, in Seymour Indiana. When Lowell was 13 years old, his family moved to the Chillicothe Missouri area. He attended the Chillicothe High School.

    As a young man looking for employment, he traveled to Chicago with some good friends to work for Motorola Television. Then he traveled with his friend “Red” Baker to Oregon where they worked for Weyerhaeuser Logging Company. After an injury on the job, he moved back to Chillicothe and met Geneva Brouhard and married her on March 1st1964. They left for Sturgis South Dakota that summer for Lowell to attend Golden Leaf Farriers College. After graduation they moved to Stillwater Oklahoma where he shod horses for ranchers and Oklahoma State University. Ultimately returning to the Chillicothe area to settle down and have a family.

    Lowell worked at Donaldson Company for 35 years, from 1969 until his retirement in 2004. He shod horses, nights and weekends throughout his life. Besides his family, his love was everything HORSES! He participated in team roping, calf roping, and team Penning. He raised and trained horses. He would share his knowledge of blacksmithing to anyone who would listen. In the mid-1970’s, he, along with a few other cowboys, started the Chillicothe Roping Club. He enjoyed studying history and Native America culture. He enjoyed coon hunting and fishing.

    Survivors include his wife, Geneva Shoultz of the home: a daughter, Angela Shoultz, of Avalon Missouri; a son Monte Shoultz of Columbia Missouri; two sisters, Retha Emerich of Chillicothe and Audrey Van Dusen and husband Rex of Chillicothe and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

    A visitation will be held for Lowell Shoultz at Heritage Funeral Home in Chillicothe, MO on September 4th, 2025 starting at 6pm to 8pm. A funeral service will be held on September 5th, 2025 at 1pm at Heritage Funeral Home and will end with a burial at Lakeview Cemetery in Sumner, MO.
