Kenneth (Spencer) Owens, 88 of Wheeling, MO passed away at Saint Lukes Hospital in Kansas City on Tuesday the 29th of April 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Kenneth was born on December 13th, 1936 to parents Robert Ewing Owens and Fern Dorthea Zeisler Owens.
Spencer Owens served his nation proudly by joining the U.S. Navy on August 21, 1956 till August 19, 1960. He served as a Quarter Master in navigation equipment on the Dixie-class destroyer, USS Yosemite and in the Navy Choir. Once, out Spencer went to school to become an architect and worked for Gibson’s as store manager. Spencer worked as an architect for most of his career, working with several companies. After his career as an architect started his other career with the State of Missouri. There Spencer held the positions of MO state construction supervisor, and retired with the state of MO as CO Officer with DOC. Spencer was part owner of a small business for a while called SOLOMO SALES. Spencer also obtained his airplane pilot license and he greatly enjoyed flying his plane. This also led to him serving as volunteer in the Civil Air Patrol. Spencer loved serving the Lord and going to church where he was in the church choir and served as board member at Turning Point Church. He also sang in the Chillicothe Area Arts Council Hymn Singing Choir. Spencer enjoyed collecting model airplanes, working in his garden, creating with wood, and going on hikes, and traveling. Most of all Spencer loved spending time with his family and was thrilled to play any role in their lives. Spencer was always ready for the next adventure and has moved on to greater journeys.
Spencer is survived by his son, Mark Owens, his three daughters, Debra Dennis (Mike), Nannette Anderson, and Denise Buchholz (Brian). Along with four grandchildren, Jennifer Cobb (Willie), Traci Norris (Josh), Weston Baker (Amy), and Benjamin Rust. Six great grandchildren, Kendra Morris (John), Myles Cobb (Halle), Brody Norris, Blair Norris, Mason Baker, and Staton Baker. As well as two great great grandchildren, stepmother, Rosie Owens, his sister, Judy Gibson (Stan), brother, John Owens and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Owens, parents, Robert and Fern Owens and a granddaughter, Nicole Allen. Along with his grandparents, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A visitation service will be held at Turning Point Church in Chillicothe, MO on May 7th, 2025 from 6pm to 8pm.
A funeral service will follow on May 8th, 2025. The service will be held at Turning Point Church at 10:30am and will conclude with the burial at Wheeling Cemetery.
