Elton Warren Grotjan, 92, of Keytesville, MO passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014 at his home, under the care of his dear friend Shirley Jean Morris and Hometown Home Care.
Elton was born in Dalton, MO, the son of Gilbert Royal Grotjan and Minnie Louise Kaiser Grotjan. He attended schools in the Dalton area and he was a life-long farmer in the area.
Elton was a veteran and served in the United States Army from 1942 thru 1945 in World War II and received three Bronze Stars. In 1943, while in Italy he said he was surprised to see farmers with McCormick Deering Mowers.
He was a member of the Dalton Methodist Church, and was the oldest and longest serving member of the American Legion Post # 7 of Brunswick MO and had received his 60 year Certificate from them. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and having fish fries with his friends and neighbors.
Elton is survived by a nephew, Richard Ray of Kansas City, MO; great nephew, Patrick Ray and wife Ashley and their son Cooper and daughter, Harper of Odessa, MO; two great nieces, Mindy Ray and Jennifer Mueller; special friend and caregiver, Shirley Jean Morris and husband Dale and sons Blake, Daniel, Dustin and Jared.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Edith Stark; and brothers-in-law Nelson Ray and Ray Stark.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Dalton Cemetery, Dalton MO.
