Johnson Lane Nichols, 85, of Chillicothe, MO passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza, Kansas City, MO.
Johnson was born February 16, 1932 in Carlow, MO, the son of Theodore Thompson Nichols and Euleta Bell Tague Nichols. He attended school in Breckenridge, MO.
He was a United States Air Force veteran and served his country during the Korean Conflict.
On February 12, 1956, Johnson married Beverly May Fairbanks. Beverly preceded him in death on January 16, 2017 after 60 years of marriage.
Johnson worked in road construction for Trager Construction and he also farmed in the area for many years.
He was a member of the House of Prayer Rescue Mission and the Disabled American Veterans.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and having fish fries for friends and family. He would ride his scooter around to pick up cans and go have coffee with friends, and “ ya’ll come back now, ya hear” was one of his favorite sayings. We will certainly miss his kind and generous spirit.
Johnson is survived by three children, Jona Jones (Lavern) of Dawn, MO, Donna Hughes of Chillicothe, and Terry Nichols of Chillicothe; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a brother, Ronnie Nichols of Jamesport, MO; sisters, Peggy Smith of Jamesport, Shirley Gray of Breckenridge, MO, Wanda Sykes of Dawn, MO, Virginia Herrema of Clearview, TX, and Janet Leachman of Hartwell, Maine; brother-in-law, Harry Fairbanks of Iowa; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly; grandchild, Marley Mae Franklin; and two brothers, Daryl Nichols and Teddy Nichols.
